Ms. Buchanan provides legal counsel to clients on a broad array of intellectual property matters, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent, trademark, and copyright applications. In addition, she is actively engaged in the firm's intellectual property litigation practice.

Ms. Buchanan was previously an associate with Bromberg & Sunstein LLP in Boston where she focused on preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications in various technologies, with a focus in computer-related inventions, and including information systems, data management, application development, video graphic systems, data storage, signal processing and bio-informatics.

Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Buchanan was an Associate Solicitor at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Arlington, Virginia where she helped draft the USPTO's Examination Guidelines for Computer-Related Inventions and was awarded a team Department of Commerce Gold Medal. She also assisted in the drafting of the USPTO's guidelines for obtaining design patent protection for computer generated icons.

Ms. Buchanan received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology from Roger Williams University, summa cum laude in 1983, graduated from The John Marshall Law School, magna cum laude in 1993, and received her Certificate in Advanced Public Management in 1997 from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 1997. She is admitted to practice in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York and the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
